In 1982, Mr. Li Fook Hing (2nd right), on behalf of the College, received a donation from Mrs. Siu Lien Ling Wong (2nd left). Professor Ma Lin (left), the then Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Dr. Fu Yuen Ko Philip (right), the then Head of Chung Chi College, also attended the ceremony.

Mr. Li Fook Hing (1923–2020) was the third son of the renowned Hong Kong business magnate, Mr. Li Koon Chun (1887–1966). The young Mr. Li first pursued studies in naval architecture and marine engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. He later obtained a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and gained practical experience in shipyards in Scotland.

In 1948, after completing his studies, Mr. Li returned to Hong Kong and began working as an engineer at Taikoo Dockyard. He was later promoted to General Manager, overseeing ship-building projects. In 1966, he joined the family business and ventured into stock investment and real estate development. In 1969, Mr. Li co-founded the Far East Exchange with his younger brother, Mr. Ronald Li Fook Shiu (1929–2014), and others. This move broke the British monopoly in Hong Kong's securities trading industry.

Mr. Li was devoted to Christianity and served the church in numerous roles. He was the long-time Treasurer of the Diocese of Hong Kong and Macau, Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican), as well as a Council Member and Trustee of St. John’s Cathedral. At the invitation of Bishop Ronald Hall, Mr. Li helped establish St. Basil’s Secondary Technical School, St Basil’s Primary School, and SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School. He also served on the boards of St. Mark’s School and SKH St. Benedict’s School. In 1996, Mr. Li made a significant donation to support the construction of SKH Li Fook Hing Secondary School in Chai Wan, providing quality secondary education for local students.

He was deeply involved in medical ministry, serving on the Hospital Governing Committee of United Christian Hospital and playing a key role in the hospital’s expansions. He also contributed to the successful construction of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po, serving on the governing committees of both. His hands-on efforts ensured the successful completion and operation of these projects, providing trusted healthcare services to the community.

Mr. Li had a long association with Chung Chi College. He joined the College Board in 1968, serving as a member of the Board, the Standing Committee, and as Vice-Chairman. From 1981 to 1987, he was Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the “Siu Tao Fung Shan Project” was implemented, providing stable resources that enabled the College to launch a wide range of educational programmes. Even after stepping down as Chairman, Mr. Li continued to serve as a Trustee. His 36 years of service to Chung Chi College were marked by exceptional contributions.

In addition, Mr. Li established numerous scholarships to support both local and Mainland Chinese students in pursuing studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In recognition of his contributions, Mr. Li was awarded the OBE medal by the Queen, and CUHK also honoured him with an Honorary Fellowship in 2005. The following year, Archbishop Peter Kwong conferred upon him the title of Lay Canon, making Mr. Li the first layperson to receive such an honor in the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui.
