Hong Kong-born Mr. Lam Chik Ho (1908–1986) was the second son of the renowned building contractor Mr. Lam Woo (1871–1933). He received his early education at Canton Christian College and later studied civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, graduating with distinction in 1931. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he and his younger brother, Dr. Lam Chik Suen (1909–2002), inherited and managed the family construction company, leading it to even greater success.

A devout Christian, Mr. Lam was dedicated not only to serving the church but also to advancing medical and educational affairs. He served as a Director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and as an Executive Committee Member and Chairman of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital. He was also involved in the founding and development of the United Christian Hospital, where he served as both Director and Chairman. He participated in the founding of St. Mark’s School and the Building Contractors’ Association School, serving as Supervisor, and was a board member of several educational institutions, including St. Paul’s Co-educational College and Lingnan College. In recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong society, Mr. Lam was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Hong Kong Government and was awarded the MBE by the Queen.

As a member of the Anglican Church, Mr. Lam enjoyed a close relationship with Bishop Ronald Owen Hall. In 1956, he was invited to serve as a member of the Board of Governors of Chung Chi College. Given his expertise in construction, he was appointed as a member of the Building Committee, overseeing the construction work of the College and the development of the campus. From 1968 to 1970, Mr. Lam succeeded Sir Kan Yuet Keung as Chairman of the Board and concurrently served as a CUHK Council member. Subsequently, he continued as a member of the Board until 1985, serving Chung Chi for nearly thirty years while facilitating the steady development of the College. His nephew, Mr. Lam Kwok, Timothy, also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the College for twenty-three years from 1991 onwards. Furthermore, the Lam Woo Foundation, established by Mr. Lam and his brother, generously supported various development projects at Chung Chi, such as the extension of the Chapel in the early 1990s and the recent construction of the Student Development Complex, truly reflecting the Lam family’s longstanding care and support for the College.
