Female residents were celebrating a Christmas party at night.

In the past, the campus of Chung Chi College was always filled with joy during Christmas. While busy preparing for various celebrations, the College also cared for the underprivileged in the community. For example, the Welfare Unit of the Student Union organised a ‘Winter Clothing Campaign Competition’, calling on students to donate winter clothing and funds to the impoverished communities of neighbouring villages and the needy workers of the College. This event received positive responses from students of various departments, who donated a large amount of clothing and cash to help recipients get through the winter. The Student Union was also concerned about the orphans at Children’s Garden in Wu Kai Sha. Upon learning that the orphanage planned to distribute Christmas gifts to their children, the Student Union appealed to the teaching staff and students to donate gifts or funds in the hope that the children would have a Merry Christmas.

“Christmas Gift Donation Campaign for Underprivileged Children”, organised by the Male and Female Residents’ Associations, also received enthusiastic responses from students who donated from one to several dollars. These donations were used to purchase toys, stationery, and food, and, together with the toys and snacks contributed by students, the Resident Associations prepared more than eight hundred gifts. Many of these gifts were donated to underprivileged children on Hong Kong Island and in the Kowloon district through the Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, with some given to the children of the hostel’s janitors and nearby villages. The remaining funds were transferred to the Student Union’s Winter Clothing Donation Campaign, benefiting even more people.

The Student Christian Fellowship held a Christmas carnival to entertain disadvantaged children. In addition to arranging Santa Claus to distribute gifts, the Fellowship also raised funds for its Free Evening School for Commoners to help out-of-school children. Like “Santa Clauses”, the Chung Chi-ers not only delivered gifts to the needy but also spread Christ’s love and the joy of Christmas to every corner of society.
