Course Introduction

The concept of serving others through social services is widely spread. Nowadays, many students have actively participated in various service programmes to achieve different learning purposes through the experience. Through the course, students can transform the service experience into different learning elements through critical reflection.

Selected students will be assigned to a group. On top of the service content and service nature, reflection is the focus of this course. In the course, the student group will meet with the instructor six times (3 hours each). Through oral presentations and group discussions, it is expected that reflections and learning on the service experience, as well as deep discussions on social topics, could be achieved. Other than oral presentations and group discussions, each student is required to submit three reflective journals.

Criteria

Participants taking part in regular, prolonged, or intensive service project
With the role of organizer, service provider, or other active participation in the service project
Service project which has just been recently completed (within 6 months), is in progress, or is going to be completed
Not restricted to programmes initiated in CUHK

Eligibility

In the 2nd year of attendance or above (for students with a normative study period of 3 years or more)
No constraints on study year (for students with a normative study period of 2 years, applicable to those admitted in 2023/24 and before)

Students are required to submit information about their previous service engagement, including their roles and learning outcomes in the online application, on which selection will be based.
