In October 1951, in view of the need of a local Chinese higher education institution in Hong Kong, Chung Chi College was founded by the representatives of Protestant Churches. Over the years, Chung Chi College provides our students with whole-person education with a broad and balanced development, promoting learning and growing through experiences.
Looking back, Chung Chi has evolved from a school which used borrowed premises for classes, to one of the founding Colleges of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; from having 63 students at the very beginning to the current student population of nearly 3,200 undergraduates plus 27,000 graduates in the alumni community. I am deeply grateful for the tireless dedication of all Chung Chi College members to striving for continuous advancement and excellence along the process.
Time flies, Chung Chi College had her 70th anniversary in 2021. Starting from 30th October 2020, the College has launched an 18-month-long celebration of her 70th anniversary with a series of activities. I wish to express my utmost gratitude to all who are involved in the anniversary celebrations, in particular members of the Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee and the eleven sub-committees, for their contribution and time.
We look forward to having you join our celebratory activities as well as your continued support as we move forward!
Professor FONG Wing Ping
Head of Chung Chi College
The year 2021 marked the 70th anniversary of Chung Chi, an important milestone in the development of our College.
Preparation for the celebrations has begun more than a year ago. The 70th Anniversary Celebration Organising Committee as well as its eleven sub-committees each led by devoted members of the College have worked together to present an array of vibrant events during the 1.5 years’ celebration period lasting from late October 2020 up to April 2022. A student forum, a symposium, art exhibitions, a carnival, music concerts, and an anniversary banquet, among others, are in the pipeline. Student activities in a brand new format and the time-cherished Ma On Shan Race have also been planned. Furthermore, anniversary souvenirs and commemorative publication are being specially produced for the 70th anniversary as well. I would like to extend my most sincere gratitude to all those who have given us their invaluable advice and help.
In this rapidly changing and challenging time, I look forward to the support from every one of you for coming together to not only celebrate the past achievements of the College but also join hands to renew our efforts in building an even brighter future. I would like to extend a warm invitation to all members of the Chung Chi family to be part of our milestone celebrations and together pass on the College’s spirit of “In Pursuit of Excellence”.
I look forward to seeing you in the anniversary events!

Names of mascots: Tsz and Ting
Design concept (extracted): The mascots are a pair of lions with visual features borrowed from the College landmark, Lion Pavilion. The positive characters of being warm, wise and courageous found in lions symbolise the warmth-filled atmosphere of the College as well as the courage and wisdom possessed by her teachers and students. The mascots are in an outfit with the same design as the hoodie produced by the CC Student Union in recent years too.

“Waiting for the Phoenix by the Pond” comes from a poem by Emperor Taizong of the Tang. The expression “Pond and Phoenix” in the poem implies a meaning coinciding with the Lily Pond (Lake Ad Excellentiam) and the CUHK emblem. In Chinese, “by the Pond” also means calligraphy. Featuring over 30 poems and calligraphy works by the teachers and students of the Department, the Exhibition demonstrated exhibitors’ creativity and aesthetic sensitivity nourished by the beauty of the CUHK and Chung Chi campus.
