Shum Kai Wah Mainland Exchange Programme: Cultural Exploration and Workplace Experience in Shanghai 2024

 

To encourage students to understand the society, life, and business culture of the Mainland, and to strengthen connections and exchanges with College alumni, Chung Chi College Mentor Programme Committee has organized the “Cultural Exploration and Workplace Experience Programme in Mainland” since the summer of 2015. The Programme has provided opportunities for Chung Chi students to experience the local economy and development as well as a historical and cultural overview of Shanghai.

 

Chung Chi College Mentor Programme Committee and CUHK Alumni Association in Shanghai will jointly organize the “Shum Kai Wah Mainland Exchange Programme”: Cultural Exploration and Workplace Experience in Shanghai in the coming summer of 2024. Sponsored by the “Shum Kai Wah Albert Memorial Fund” which was established in memory of the late Chung Chi alumnus Mr. Albert Shum (1973/Economics) by his family and classmates, the Programme will be extended from three weeks to five weeks this term. The Programme has also been supported by the Yangpu District Government of Shanghai, which has assisted in coordinating the company visits and internship opportunities.

 

Date

May 26, 2024 (Sunday) to June 29, 2024 (Saturday) for 5 weeks:

o Cultural Exploration and Company Visits: May 27 (Monday) to June 2 (Sunday)

o Workplace Experience: June 3 (Monday) to June 28 (Friday)

o Closing Ceremony: June 27 (Thursday)

 

Quota

o 30 Chung Chi students from different disciplines

o Mentees of Chung Chi College Local or Overseas Mentor Programme will have priority to participate in the Programme

o Participants will take part in a four-week internship and thus must speak fluent Putonghua and possess the ability to read and write in Chinese

 

Interviews

o First-round interview: February 16, 2024 (Friday)

o Second-round interview*: February 21 (Wednesday) to February 23, 2024 (Friday)

 

*Students shortlisted in the first-round interview will be required to attend a second-round by the internship corporates in Shanghai. The interview will be conducted online or by telephone.

 

Programme Highlights

o Participants will be divided into groups and assigned to companies in Shanghai for a four-week internship to understand the business practice and culture. The firms will cover different industries, and the College will match participants with the firms based on participants’ career orientation and interests;

o Participating in seminars, group discussions, and business visits, and representing the College to have an exchange with students from a university in Shanghai;

o Sharing with CUHK alumni working in Shanghai;

o Visiting economic and infrastructure projects in Shanghai or its surrounding cities;

o Participants will be divided into groups for group discussion. After the Programme, participants will be required to submit group and individual internship reports;

o Eligible students can enroll in the College upper-year General Education course GECC3130 “Exploration and Discovery” (E&D, 3 credits).

 

Programme Fee

1. HK$4,800 per participant (Including round-trip flight tickets between Hong Kong and Shanghai on a designated date; accommodation, internship, seminars, and business visits in Shanghai during the programme. But meals, local transportation, and expenses related to sightseeing during the programme will not be covered.)

OR

2. HK$3,300 (Same as above, but NOT including round-trip flight tickets between Hong Kong and Shanghai)

 

Remarks:

o Plus a programme deposit of HK$500 per participant.

o Each participant will be subsidized an allowance of RMB$100 per working day for meals and local transportation during the programme.
