One event that revealed and strengthened the College’s public spirit was the student-staff cooperation in moving the books from the old library to the new one. Even in the rain, and after dark, for several days, long queues of students, staff and minor staff passed books from hand to hand between the two buildings, saving the College money and solving a massive cataloguing and shelving problem. In the rain, plastic bags were used to protect the books but not the students, yet their enthusiasm was never dampened.
